August 14, 2010:

• Retirement: I'm sorry to announce that effective immediately, I will be ceasing work on RuneScoop. I am also "retiring" from the world of RuneScape in general.
  
  There are a number of reasons for this, but I won't bore you with all of them. I haven't played RuneScape just for fun in years, and while I do occasionally feel drawn to log in, I no longer feel enjoyment spending time "accomplishing" meaningless things in a fake world. Since 2007 I have played primarily for this site, because I felt it had value and I enjoyed helping people. I hoped I could make the site financially viable, to justify the time and effort it takes to write quality material. Unfortunately I have not been able to do so, and with the current economic state and my oldest son about to enter college, I must now move on.
  
  Here are some specifics about what is going to happen now:

  • The site itself is not being removed; it will just be "mothballed" and left in place. I have added a disclaimer to each page warning players that the material may be out of date or may become so over time.

  • The RuneScoop forum community will stay open and active as long as players want it to remain so.

  • All RuneScoop recurring memberships have been cancelled to ensure no future charges. All current members will continue to have access to the members' version as long as the site is up. In addition, since I do not feel like I lived up to my end of the bargain, anyone who purchased an annual membership may contact me to cancel their current membership and receive a partial or full refund as they see fit.
