Please Whitelist This Site?

I know everyone hates ads. But please understand that I am providing premium content for free that takes hundreds of hours of time to research and write. If I can't make at least a little bit of money to support my family via this site, I'll have to stop working on it.

One alternative is to become a RuneScoop member. It's cheap, you get access to all of the site with no ads, and you help keep the lights on around here.

If you want to use this site for free, I'd be grateful if you could add RuneScoop to the whitelist for Adblock. To do so, just open the Adblock menu and select "Disable on Runescoop.com". Or go to the Tools menu and select "Adblock Plus Preferences...". Then click "Add Filter..." at the bottom, and add this string: "@@http://*runescoop.com/*". Then just click OK.

Thanks for your understanding!

Sincerely... Qeltar, aka Charles, your hard-working host and RuneScape guide-writer extraordinaire. :)

The RuneScoop Combat Spell Efficiency Guide for RuneScape

Magic has always been one of RuneScape’s most important skills, but until recently, very few players used it regularly for killing monsters—it was usually seen as both too slow and too expensive, and rightly so. Those who did use magic in combat usually had a pretty simple trade-off to make: use a higher-level, more expensive spell to kill and get XP faster, or use a lower-level spell to save money at the cost of time.

Things have really changed in the world of RuneScape magic over the last year or so, however. Less expensive runes have made magic combat quite a bit cheaper, and Jagex has even added a high profile monster with a specific weakness to magic: ice strykewyrms. There are now staves that boost magic damage, and magic potions now increase damage as well.

All of these new features are making magic-based combat more attractive, but unfortunately, they are also making it more confusing; decisions that used to be simple are now more complex. For example, are you better off using a staff that increases damage by 10%, or one that saves you all of your air runes? Is the XP you get from Fire Surge worth the extra cost over Fire Wave? Is using bolt spells with chaos gauntlets a good option? How do normal spells compare to those from Ancient Magicks?

The RuneScoop Combat Spell Efficiency Guide aims to answer all of these questions and more. Given a particular set of combat parameters, it will show you a table that lets you easily compare the cost, speed and efficiency of dozens of combat spells, used with any of several types of magic staves.

This mini-guide is a bit more complex than some of the others in this part of the site. If you are here for the first time, I recommend reading the reference page so you can get the best possible results from the spell table.
