Please Whitelist This Site?

I know everyone hates ads. But please understand that I am providing premium content for free that takes hundreds of hours of time to research and write. If I can't make at least a little bit of money to support my family via this site, I'll have to stop working on it.

One alternative is to become a RuneScoop member. It's cheap, you get access to all of the site with no ads, and you help keep the lights on around here.

If you want to use this site for free, I'd be grateful if you could add RuneScoop to the whitelist for Adblock. To do so, just open the Adblock menu and select "Disable on Runescoop.com". Or go to the Tools menu and select "Adblock Plus Preferences...". Then click "Add Filter..." at the bottom, and add this string: "@@http://*runescoop.com/*". Then just click OK.

Thanks for your understanding!

Sincerely... Qeltar, aka Charles, your hard-working host and RuneScape guide-writer extraordinaire. :)

Dungeon Spider

The ice spiders encountered on the upper floors of Daemonheim aren’t poisonous, but once you hit floor #12, you’re out of luck. Instead of those innocuous creatures, you then get to deal with dungeon spiders all the way down to the bottom. Easily identified by its distinctive yellow and brown markings—not to mention its eight spindly legs—the dungeon spider is not feared like some monsters are, but I don’t know anyone who’s ever glad to see them!

The spider’s poison begins at 58 life points, and activates only upon a successful hit; the poison is not automatic on contact the way it is with some monsters outside Daemonheim. How much of a threat it presents depends mostly on how prepared the player or team is. Those who take the time to buy antipoisons or make cure runes will find the spider a minor nuisance; those who do not, may find that they must either interrupt what they are doing to deal with the poison, or waste a lot of food as it slowly wears away their health.

Standard antipoisons are sold by the smuggler for 200 gp. These only cure poison—they do not provide any immunity—so they should be used only after the spider is killed, to prevent simply getting poisoned again. Another option is the set of cure spells available to mages: Cure Me (which cures the caster of poison); Cure Other (which cures the targeted player) and Cure Group (which cures players in the area around the caster. These require a Magic level of 71, 68 and 74 respectively, along with access to the Lunar Magicks spellbook. Having one player able to cure teammates can be very useful in a team dungeon environment. These too only cure poison, not provide immunity.

A final option is to make weak, regular or strong cure potions, using aloe, featherfoil or buckthorn respectively, combined with firebreath whiskey. Despite their name, these actually do not only cure poison, but provide immunity from it for 5, 10 or 20 minutes. However, this is usually overkill for spiders, and most players don’t bother.

The poison can be a real bother in low-complexity dungeons. It is possible to encounter one in a complexity 1 dungeon and become poisoned, yet there is no way to buy antipoisons, make potions or get runes. So you have to just take all the damage.

The spider can also damage via a standard melee attack, but this tends to be quite weak, hitting for a maximum well under 100 LP even for the level 74 spiders. It also has very low defence against every attack form I’ve tried.

Note that these spiders can themselves be poisoned by players.
