Please Whitelist This Site?

I know everyone hates ads. But please understand that I am providing premium content for free that takes hundreds of hours of time to research and write. If I can't make at least a little bit of money to support my family via this site, I'll have to stop working on it.

One alternative is to become a RuneScoop member. It's cheap, you get access to all of the site with no ads, and you help keep the lights on around here.

If you want to use this site for free, I'd be grateful if you could add RuneScoop to the whitelist for Adblock. To do so, just open the Adblock menu and select "Disable on Runescoop.com". Or go to the Tools menu and select "Adblock Plus Preferences...". Then click "Add Filter..." at the bottom, and add this string: "@@http://*runescoop.com/*". Then just click OK.

Thanks for your understanding!

Sincerely... Qeltar, aka Charles, your hard-working host and RuneScape guide-writer extraordinaire. :)

Enigmatic Hoardstalker (Riddles)

In this room, an NPC called the enigmatic hoardstalker tests your wits. You must decipher the meaning of his riddle, then answer him by giving him the item that solves the riddle.

General Description

Sponsored links help make RuneScoop possible; RuneScoop members don't see them. See here for more information about ads.

This is one of the challenge rooms that always has a fixed structure. The enigmatic hoardstalker dominates the center of the room, with a pool of water behind him that may contain fishing spots. There are side rooms in three corners, separated from the main area by doors or gates.

The three rooms each have the same contents, though their exact location in the room may vary. The rooms don’t have any particular names (just like challenge rooms overall) but I’ve given them some informal names for easier reference:

  • Kitchen: Contains a cooking range, farming patch, and a number of food barrels.

  • Storage Room: Has a table with several items on it, a chest, and possibly other (unimportant) features.

  • Empty Room: Has a few items strewn about on the ground, but otherwise is empty.

In addition to the visible items on the table and on the floor in the empty room, there are more items in the food barrels and the chest in the storage room. These items all have a “(o)” suffix, meaning “ornamental”, and cannot be used for their normal purpose—they are only for the puzzle. So, for example, you cannot wield the ornamental kiteshield, or fish using the feather, and so forth.

To solve the challenge, speak to the hoardstalker and ask him for a riddle; you can also right-click him to save time. He’ll give you a short hint, and you must answer the riddle by retrieving the correct item and using it on him. Answer correctly and he says:

“Your mind is as clear as a mountain lake, ahnanai! You may pass, but do so with caution. Your thinking is sharp, but so are the claws and teeth beyond.”

Mess up, and he hits for up to 500 LP of damage and scouls:

“You are incorrect, brah. Your mind is muddy, like a sow’s watering hole.”

Note that this puzzle has a Summoning requirement, and unlike most challenges, it is based on your current Summoning points total! If you try to talk to the hoardstalker and can’t understand him, you need to restore Summoning points before you can do the room. (There’s an obelisk in the starting room.)

Recommended Strategies for Solo Players

Pretty simple stuff here: get the riddle, retrieve the right item and use it on the hoardstalker. Most of the riddles are pretty simple, though I can imagine some people might get stuck, so I put the answers in Table 107. For the benefit of those of you who might want a nudge, I also wrote a hint for each riddle that is a bit more obvious without flat out giving you the answer.

Table 107: Dungeoneering - Enigmatic Hoardstalker Riddles
