Please Whitelist This Site?

I know everyone hates ads. But please understand that I am providing premium content for free that takes hundreds of hours of time to research and write. If I can't make at least a little bit of money to support my family via this site, I'll have to stop working on it.

One alternative is to become a RuneScoop member. It's cheap, you get access to all of the site with no ads, and you help keep the lights on around here.

If you want to use this site for free, I'd be grateful if you could add RuneScoop to the whitelist for Adblock. To do so, just open the Adblock menu and select "Disable on Runescoop.com". Or go to the Tools menu and select "Adblock Plus Preferences...". Then click "Add Filter..." at the bottom, and add this string: "@@http://*runescoop.com/*". Then just click OK.

Thanks for your understanding!

Sincerely... Qeltar, aka Charles, your hard-working host and RuneScape guide-writer extraordinaire. :)

Mysterious Shade

Mysterious shades are translucent, blue-toned monsters. They have a humanoid head and torso with odd tentacles sticking out of them; below the waist you can only see what look like wispy robes that fade away as they get close to the floor. Shades do not have legs; they move by floating around.

Shades are one of the most feared and despised of all non-boss monsters in Daemonheim. They are also one of the most common, unfortunately, appearing on all floors. They are even featured in a challenge room (which, no surprise, is also feared and despised!)

The reason shades are so tough is that they use a combination of a strong magic attack (a blue energy ball) and a ranged attack that I believe is magic-based (it looks like a small yellowish fireball). Most players use melee plate armor, and shades can rip through it very quickly with this combination of magic-defence-sensitive attacks. Prayers/curses only provide partial protection, and the very high level instances (level 111 and 133) can kill a player in short order, especially in a busy room with other monsters attacking.

Ranged armor is best; with melee armor, a magic protection prayer or curse is recommended. I have actually at times simply removed my metal armor when fighting without prayer, and this helps somewhat. (Just remember to put it back on afterwards!)

Defensively, shades appear to be weak to slash attacks and magic, and strong to crush attacks. Stab attacks work moderately well; ranging is somewhat mediocre.
