Power Crystal, Gaps and Guardian Sphere In this somewhat odd-looking puzzle, you must jump the gaps between suspended pedestals to get to a platform where a lodestone is located, and activate the stone to unlock the rooms doors. This would be pretty easy if not for the glowing guardian who stands in your way.. or rather, moves in your way. This puzzle features a large open area in the middle of the room, into which have been placed a grid of diagonally oriented pedestals and a platform with a pale blue lodestone. There will be a purple power crystal on the ground near the start of the puzzle, near a wall of the room. This puzzle room may contain monsters and also skill resources, with mining rocks being particularly common. The goal here is to jump the gaps between the pedestals to get to the platform, and then use the power crystal on the lodestone to unlock the doors. But theres a semi-intelligent obstacle to contend with: a guardian sphere that appears as soon as you start across the pedestals. Players can only move in the four cardinal directions, jumping gaps heading north, south, east or west; the guardian sphere can only move diagonally from one pedestal to an adjacent one without crossing any gaps. Each time you take a step across a gap, the guardian will move one diagonal space, trying to catch you directly or head you off at the pass later in the puzzle. If the sphere catches you, it surrounds you in a nimbus of light, then teleports you back to the start of the puzzle and deals you a substantial amount of damage (usually around 400 to 500 LP, in my experience). It is normally possible to use a specific jump pattern to avoid the sphere entirely (see below). However, sometimes when you try to jump a gap you instead stumble and dont go anywhere, which gives the sphere a free turn, so to speak. Thus, the potential for failure is always present.
First, remember to pick up the darned power crystal! Yeah, Ive jumped all the gaps, arrived at the lodestone and then uttered a few choice words. :) With that done, there is a deterministic pattern you can follow to cross the gaps that should always workat least, as long you dont stumble:

If at any point in the sequence above you stumble, the orb will get a free move and the pattern will be ruined: go back and start over. The only time the orb will normally be able to catch you is if you stumble on the second jump to the left (step #3 above) or if you stumble more than once. One annoyance with this puzzle is that you have to deal with the orb going back from the lodestone as well. If practical, some players prefer to just use Dungeon Home Teleport and run back to the room. Some will intentionally run into the orb to get a free teleport off the platform (at the cost of some pain, of course.) If you want to jump back the right way you need to use a slightly different jump pattern, because the pedestals arent entirely symmetric:
Again, if you stumble then start over, or just eat the damage and be done with this annoyance. :) This challenge is the same in a team. For efficiency, most parties have one person deal with the puzzle while the others kill the monsters in the room.
