Please Whitelist This Site?

I know everyone hates ads. But please understand that I am providing premium content for free that takes hundreds of hours of time to research and write. If I can't make at least a little bit of money to support my family via this site, I'll have to stop working on it.

One alternative is to become a RuneScoop member. It's cheap, you get access to all of the site with no ads, and you help keep the lights on around here.

If you want to use this site for free, I'd be grateful if you could add RuneScoop to the whitelist for Adblock. To do so, just open the Adblock menu and select "Disable on Runescoop.com". Or go to the Tools menu and select "Adblock Plus Preferences...". Then click "Add Filter..." at the bottom, and add this string: "@@http://*runescoop.com/*". Then just click OK.

Thanks for your understanding!

Sincerely... Qeltar, aka Charles, your hard-working host and RuneScape guide-writer extraordinaire. :)

This Guide and the Non-Members’ Version of Dungeoneering

As I mentioned on the prior page, I pretty much always play the members’ version of RuneScape. I believe anyone who considers himself or herself to be a serious player should be a member, not only to support Jagex’s development efforts, but for the far greater richness of the members’ game. The cost is trivial given that you are able to do more, have more fun, and avoid literally hundreds of hours of tedious grinding.

That said, I understand that some people cannot (or will not) obtain membership, and I know that Dungeoneering was designed to be for both members and non-members. I did want to make this guide for both types of players, and I spent some time trying out the F2P game.

Dungeoneering is basically the same thing in F2P and P2P except that free players have more restrictions. Unfortunately, one of these limitations comes in the form of a severe XP cap for high-level players who do dungeons on free worlds, which was introduced a few days after the initial skill release. This has made doing dungeons on F2P a big waste of time for anyone with high combat levels.

I need to get Dungeoneering XP and tokens in order to further develop this and other guides. It didn’t make a lot of sense for me to spend a great deal of time testing everything on both P2P and F2P, especially when my XP on F2P was going to be minimal. Most of the people who read my guides are over combat level 90 and also members, so I decided to focus mostly on the P2P version of Dungeoneering.

I realize some F2Pers may not like that, but again, there isn’t all that much difference between F2P and P2P in terms of concepts, mechanics and game strategy. Nearly everything in this guide will apply just as well to non-members as members. You’ll justs have to keep in mind that certain areas of Dungeoneering will just be off limits.

Here are a few of the more noteworthy limitations or restrictions on F2Pers when it comes to Dungeoneering:

  • Players with a combat level over 90 get a severe XP reduction on F2P worlds (even if they are members).

  • In F2P, only resources from tier 1 to 5 are available; tiers 6 to 11 are members only.

  • Members who play on F2P worlds will find that any bound items they have that aren’t available in F2P worlds simply do not appear in their backpack. They aren’t destroyed; they return when you log into a P2P world.

  • Monsters tend to be lower level in F2P due to the weaker weapons and armor available in F2P worlds.

  • F2P players cannot use members’ only spells, such as those from the Lunar Magicks spellbook.

  • F2P players can craft all runes used in spells that non-members can cast, even ones they can’t craft above ground (like death runes). They cannot craft runes that are not needed in F2P, like bloods.

  • Members only skills outside Daemonheim—including Farming, Fletching, Herblore, Hunter and Summoning—cannot be used by non-members in Daemonheim.

  • Slayer is also a members only skill, so I don’t believe there are any Slayer monsters in F2P Dungeoneering.

  • Ancient curses are members only, so if you are a member and are on curses and log into an F2P world, you’ll find yourself with no ability to use any prayers at all.

  • It is possible to get skill doors or challenge rooms in F2P that require skills that F2Pers cannot access. This effectively makes those parts of the dungeon inaccessible.

  • Some Dungeoneering rewards are members only (these are indicated in the rewards table.)

There may be more limitations as well, but I think those are the main ones. I’ll add to this list if it turns out I’ve forgotten anything.
