Trees (Branches) Even given the general suspension of disbelief required to accept much of what is in RuneScape as a whole, the idea of full-fledged trees growing in the middle of dungeons deep underground might have been pushing things a bit. ;) But we need wood for fires and Fletching, and it has to come from somewhere! So in Daemonheim, we get branches by chopping small tree growths that climb up the walls of dungeon rooms. There are ten kinds of trees, corresponding to the ten standard tiers of resources in Dungeoneering. They require Woodcutting levels of 1, 10, 20 and so forth up to 90, following the usual pattern of tiered skill requirements. Woodcutting can be boosted using weak, regular or strong gatherers potions. As in the rest of RuneScape, you need a hatchet to cut tree branches in Daemonheim. These too follow the usual tiered system, from the notive hatchet that requires level 1 Woodcutting, up to the level 90 promethium hatchet. Theres also apparently a level 99 primal hatchet, but thats only available as a rare drop (and its doubtful that any player would spend a binding slot on it anyhow.) All resources in Daemonheim are fixed, and you can usually get 2 to 6 sets of branches from a tree before it is exhausted. It is possible to cut any tree (that you have the level for) using any type of hatchet. You do not appear to be penalized by using a low-tiered hatchet on a high-tiered tree, the way you are in skills like Mining or Cooking. I have, for example, received 5 sets of corpsethorn branches using a novite hatchet, but you will never get 5 katagon ores mining with a novite pickaxe. Because they grow on walls, trees do not take up any space on the dungeon floor, and this makes them very easy to miss. You can easily walk right by a good tree and not even notice it. If I find myself particularly needing to get some branches, I often lower my view angle as far down as it will go and scan by moving my mouse around, which often makes it easier to spot these resources. Each tree has a distinctive coloration scheme and some have different shapes, making them theoretically easier to distinguish, but its still common to not notice them. As with other resources, you will most commonly find trees corresponding to your Woodcutting level. Mine is currently 85, and I frequently find entgallow, corpsethorn and thigat trees (which require level 80, 70 and 60 Woodcutting respectively). I can cut grave creeper trees with an Herblore boost, but rarely see them unless playing with a friend who has a higher Woodcutting level. The Woodcutting skill table lists all of the types of trees, describes what they look like, and lists the XP you get for each set of branches caught.
